I bookmarked this page for future reference as I am one of those people who needs a cup of coffee to get me going in the morning. Thanks for posting this insightful article.

Thanks Matt. Like most foods in North America, we over process them to a point where their actual nutritional value is "processed" out of them. Unfortunately, most coffee that’s sold falls into this category and the positive antioxidants are also removed.

As for the studies: For all we know the sample of people that drank coffee and experienced less depression were because they exercised more. As an avid-non-coffee-drinking-cyclist, I know some of my riding buddies can’t start a ride without their hit of Joe. Coffee drinkers or not, none suffer from depression, not because they drink coffee, but because the exercise produces enough endorphins to maintain a positive outlook on life. As for the second report about the linkage between Brain Cancer and drinking a small about of coffee or tea each day. As I said in my post, drinking organic coffee contains antioxidants that suppress the exposure to harmful free radicals. That said, you will receive significantly more health benefits from eating small colorful berries (blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, etc) that have much higher ORAC values than coffee, and you won't be subjected to the negative effects of caffeine.

Thanks again for your feedback...Enjoy the Ride

What do you think of articles like these ones that point to coffee having positive effects rather than the mostly negative ones that you mentioned?

Here's one article that cites a study done showing that coffee can cause a lower rate of depression in women: http://skinny-coffee.biz/coffee-is-potentially-linked-to-reduced-depression-in-women/

And another one showing that coffee can reduce the risk of brain cancer: www.doublebrush.com/2011/03/reduce-your-risk-of-brain-cancer-by-drinking-coffee-or-tea.html

What do you think?
